Michael J Smith, who has a background in opera, politics and fitness, founded Greek Theatre Now in 2024.
It performs outdoor ancient Greek theatre at the Burbidge Amphitheatre, Australian National Botanic Gardens, Canberra, ACT, Australia, each Easter for schools and the general public.
Its debut production was Sophocles’ Antigone, directed by Cate Clelland and choreographed by Lachlan Ruffy, in April 2025. Reviews.
Its 2026 production is Euripides’ The Trojan Women. It will perform the play in Canberra in April and Perth, Western Australia, in September.
