OAM to Elizabeth Minchin

From Ros Jackson, President, Friends of the ANU Classics Museum, to Friends members:

“No doubt many of you were delighted to note the award of the OAM to Emeritus Professor Elizabeth Minchin in the Australia Day Honours list. It is indeed a well deserved recognition of many dedicated years of service to the ANU, to the discipline of Classics in particular, and to the ANU Classics Museum which is so close to our hearts.

“Elizabeth’s scholarship is recognised nationally and internationally, particularly in the field of Homeric research, and she has a long list of publications. She is an outstanding and well-recognised teacher and her commitment to the Centre for Classical Education has continued well beyond her retirement in 2015.

“Elizabeth continued to serve as curator of the museum in a voluntary capacity from her retirement until the successful fundraising project resulted in the creation of the part time position of The Friends’ Lecturer in Classics and Curator of the ANU Classics Museum, and she has actively supported the continuation of this role which is vital to the ongoing reputation and activities of the museum.

“We are so grateful for Elizabeth’s continued membership of the committee of the Friends. Her wise counsel, knowledge and wide ranging contacts have led to many excellent speakers for our outreach lecture program over a great number of years. Long may this continue!

“On your behalf I extend sincere congratulations to Elizabeth. If you come to our AGM and lecture on Wednesday 25 February you can show your appreciation in person!”

Note from Michael J Smith: Elizabeth, generously, is an adviser to Greek Theatre Now. We are grateful for her support and patronage.
