Greek Theatre Now’s 2025 production, Sophocles’ Antigone, was honoured during the recent Canberra and New South Wales theatre awards season.
At the fourth annual Ovations Awards at the Hellenic Club, movement director & choreographer Lachlan Ruffy (pictured above) won the prestigious Major Judges Award – Theatre for his movement and fight choreography of the Antigone Greek Chorus. The Chorus is a major, and spectacular, part of ancient Greek theatre, the collective consciousness of the people, telling their stories in tribal ritual. Congratulations Lachlan, the Antigone Chorus, the cast and director Cate Clelland. Lachlan is a drama teacher in Canberra and graduate of WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts). The Ovations cover Canberra and Queanbeyan.
The production was also nominated for recent Canberra Area Theatre Awards; the Antigone Chorus – Best Ensemble in a Play, and Michael J Smith, as Teiresias, Best Actor in a Featured Role in a Play. The awards cover productions in Canberra, Queanbeyan and southern New South Wales.
Congratulations to the entire Antigone 2025 cast and crew.
